Up for auction is my 2006 Yamaha Raptor. I am 52 years old, I have owned this quad since it was new and I am the only one who has ever driven it. I live in Flagstaff, AZ where you can license an ATV for the street and there are literally thousands of miles of unpaved forest service roads just waiting. This is my second Raptor (my first was a 660) so I had a pretty good idea how I wanted this one to be outfitted.
I started by ordering custom lightweight wheels for my quad. All four original tires and rims are included in this auction with about 10 hours of riding on them. Since I knew that I would be riding in the dirt and on the street too, I wanted a tire set up that would be durable because of all the sharp rocks around here and be able to handle street speeds. The front wheels are 12 inches and have Carlisle 25X8X12 All Trail ATV tires mounted on them; the rear wheels are 14 inches and have BFG All Terrain 27X8.5X14 light truck tires mounted on them. This is the original set of tires from 2006 and they have worked absolutely perfectly because they allow me to drive to and from the unpaved forest service roads without having to hassle with a trailer and they afford me an additional 2.5 inches of rear clearance. The front tires will need to be replaced soon, but the rear BFG radials have at least another season on them. In the past three years I have accumulated 209 hours and 6632 miles on this Raptor according to the Vapor speedometer. I estimate about half of those miles on the street and half in the dirt. This quad has very quick acceleration with a top speed somewhere north of 80 mph and runs straight down the road, paved or not. I replaced the thumb throttle with a twist throttle and installed Kuryakyn Iso-handgrips. I replaced the stock air cleaner and inlet with a much larger inlet adaptor and a K&N lifetime filter. I also added a Power Commander III electronic fuel management system, a custom fabricated (homemade) left mirror, a horn and a Trail Tech Vector electronic speedometer that is very accurate. Because of the much larger rear tires, I changed the gears from 14-38 to 13-40 but was still able to use the stock chain, and I added a custom fabricated rack on the back with an indestructible Pelican camera box for carrying extra clothes and emergency supplies.
This Raptor has always resided in my garage. I replaced all of the plastic warning decals with metal raptor signs, the two decals on rear fenders came off during the first washing and were not replaced. I switched to Amsoil synthetic motor oil at the first oil change. Every 1500 miles I cleaned and re-oiled the air filter as well as replacing the engine oil and filter (it is a single cylinder after all). I also replaced the stock plug with an iridium one. This quad was broken in according to Yamaha recommendations and runs absolutely great. I use a chain wax, not an oil and that is what you see on the swing arm.
NOTE: When I took this quad to the North Rim in 2007, I was carrying extra fuel on top of the Pelican box. This proved to be too much weight and I developed a crack on the left side of the frame, at the very back end where the rack attaches. I patched it with a 3/16? thick piece of steel and some epoxy JB weld. It has never moved since, see pictures. There are also some random light scratches on the plastic fenders and when I carried a house key with the ignition key, it marked that little plastic piece some too.
I have thoroughly enjoyed owning this quad and believe that you will too. I have a very reasonable reserve set. My reason for selling is that I have just purchased a 2003 Honda Goldwing and need the space in my garage. Check my feedback, I have attempted to describe my Raptor as accurately as possible, please contact me if you have any questions.
