1968 Ford Mustang Pumped Up 302 V8, Auto Trans, Viper Red
The restoration on my 1968 Mustang was just finished less than a year ago in November. Since then, it has been garaged at all times, and driven only to a few car shows, so it has less than 200 miles on it max, since completion. Throughout the whole restoration process, which was just about one year, the car was my daily driver, and ever since I got it on the road, there have never been any issues with the car, it runs and drives like a dream.
Engine- The engine that?s in the car is a pumped up 302 bored .040? over, that puts out about 300 HP or so. It came out of a 68 Fastback that was wrecked in the rear, and it had only 30K miles on it since the engine was rebuilt. Before I put it in my car I completely disassembled the engine, and overhauled it.
It has New, Clevite 77 Rod and Main bearings, rings, High performance Erson camshaft(part# E212121. 214,214@.050? duration, .478,.478 lift) New Crane Cams Hydraulic lifters, and Cloyes dual roller timing set. It has a nice set of 289 heads on it, which were gone through at the same time the engine was rebuilt so those were already in great condition.
Edelbrock Performer Intake, Holley 600 CFM Vacuum secondary 4 barrel Carb. K&N air cleaner, Cobra Valve Covers, Rebuilt distributor with Pertronix Igniter Electronic Ignition, new cap & rotor, MSD Blaster coil, New Plugs, plug wires and Adjustable Vacuum advance set for overall timing of 36 degrees.
New Water Pump, chrome oil pan, New Napa Professional series Starter, and New flexplate, which means no grinding on startups. Engine is balanced great and runs solid.
It has Tri-Y headers which are painted a grayish-silver super high heat header paint, which is called Nu-Cast, so the paint won?t flake or peel off. Then they go back to 2 ½ pipes with 50 series Flowmasters which have a nice deep tone, but not too noisy. The car is very quick, and is tuned very well. It has some rhythm/ lope to it too but not a whole lot, it sounds really nice. The transmission is a C4 automatic, with a shift kit installed. It will chirp the tires pretty good when it shifts into second and the 2-3 shift is real nice too with no slip or lag when it goes into gear. It continues to make good power in 3rd gear too and just keeps pulling. The rear end is stock 8? with 3.00 gears. It will smoke the tires anyway so there in not point to put in any lower gears. Drives excellent on the Freeway.
Brand new chrome export brace & chrome monte carlo bar, and chrome shock towers all using stainless hardware and nice polished bumper bolts with the rounded heads. The Engine compartment is FULLY detailed and painted with semi-gloss black after hours of sanding to get everything looking perfect. If you know a good amount about 67-68 mustangs, you know the shock towers can sometimes be cracked and damaged on cars that have been abused over the years. The shock towers on this car howerever are in excellent condition with NO signs of stress or cracks.
It has a new Interstate battery, battery tray, and hold down. The charging system works excellent.
New coolant overflow tank, accessory electric fan nicely mounted in front of the radiator with its own thermostat set to come on if its ever needed.
New 4 Row radiator, hoses and thermostat. It also has a nice flexfan(not the noisy ones), with a fan shroud surrounding it. The car never overheats or has ANY PROBLEMS & always runs at a constant 180 degrees, even here in CA when it gets 105F+.
Brakes- The car came with 4 wheel drum brakes when I got it and even though the brakes were all good, it had been sitting for a while so I wanted to go ahead and replace ALL the brake hydraulics on the car. I replaced the rear wheel cylinders, and other than that the rear brakes were great. The drums were also painted with a nice high heat silver paint. The Fronts were upgraded to the disk brakes which are correct for the car with the single piston calipers. All the front brakes have been taken apart and everything was sepperately panted with silver Nu-Cast. The calipers were painted a high heat ?racing red? paint to match the color of the car.
New Master Cylinder also painted Nu-Cast to keep from rusting, with new brake lines ran to the distribution block.
The car stops fantastic, just like a dream. No pulling to either side and the pedal is nice and firm.
The car has a perfect stance, and the front sits nice and low. It has an aftermarket 1? sway bar in the front and KYB Gas-A-Just shock all the way around. All the suspension is nice and tight. Drives excellent and takes the turns very well with no body roll.
The Wheels and the Tires are Brand New, and again only have 200 miles at the most on them, driven to and from car shows. The Wheels are Vintage Wheel Works 15x7 Vintage 45?s. Tires are Bf Goodrich Radial T/A?s front- 215/60/15 rear- 245/60/15. They are high speed balanced with the sticky weights on the inside, not hammered onto the outer lip.
Interior- Gauges restored with new lenses and bezel. Has aftermarket white faced 2 1/16? Autometer Phantom water temp and oil pressure gauges, and 3 3/8? white faced tach mounted nicely on top of the steering column. New Grant woodgrain steering wheel with 3 aluminum spokes, very nice wheel, and both horns work great too.
Both front seats are very comfortable. Passenger seat is in excellent condition, drivers seat has a little bit of the stitching let go so theres a few small slits in the base of the seat which I show in the pitures. Back seat is excellent, and was just reupholstered. Black carpet is in great condition. Black dash looks great too, no cracks or anything like that. New shifter bezel, door panels, lock knobs etc. New Pioneer 6x9?s and has a Pioneer Deh-P5200 deck mounted in the original location, the stereo sounds great. I also installed a power antenna for a better look.
All metal surfaces inside such as dash, doors, rear panels etc, have been stripped and painted with a nice semi-gloss black. Everything looks excellent. The headliner is brand new, and is stretched and installed correctly, with both windows out of the car, which means brand new window seals also. A new dome light and bezel were installed also. All new weatherstripping in the doors, quarter windows, and roof rail weather strip also. Trunk weatherstrip and hood to cowl seal is new also. In the trunk, theres a new plad factory style trunk mat, and the wheel wells and quarters and undercoated.
Paint/Body- The whole car was stripped down to bare metal(more pictures upon request) and all of the best paint materials were used. Started with PPG epoxy primer, FeatherFill Primer surfacer, PPG Red Oxide sealer, PPG Viper Red base coat, and top of the line Transtar Clear. Clear coat was then wet sanded, and 2 more coats of clear were applied for an orange peel free, deep, smooth final clear coat. Wet sanded to 2500grit and compounded ad polished. All the body panels line up great and there is no funky body lines or gaps in body panel alignment. The paint looks amazing and must been seen in person to fully appreciate the color, depth and quality. The car always grabs peoples attention on the road because the red is so bright and vibrant. All of the trim is either brand new, or very nice used and restored. New grill trim, hood peak molding and FORD letters, New bumpers and polished stainless bumperbolts, New window trim, new side quarter ornaments, new taillight lenses and bezels, New trunk trim, and quarter extension trim. New Front valance and the rear valance is also a new GT valance with the exhaust exiting in the cutouts. New wipers. All the glass is in pretty good condition, a few tiny scratches here and there, but they look great as you can see in the pictures. Turnsignals and reverse lights look excellent with no pits or messed up chrome.
The whole car was restored with the highest attention to detail! It took over a year to restore and over 2000 hours spent on the car. Took tons of time and money to get this car to where it is today. People always comment on the car at the car shows and how great the paint looks and how even the smallest little details were not overlooked. The Floors are in great condition as well as the frames rails. Drivers rear floor was cut out and replaced with a brand new replacement pan and sealed and undercoated. No Rust. All the common rust areas are excellent. Door Jambs completely detailed and the car was fully jammed with the panels removed to get everything painted. Even the smallest details weren?t overlooked during the paint process, or the whole build for that matter. I urge you to come look at and inspect the car yourself to fully appreciate it.
I am getting rid of the car because I really need the money to buy a more practical car for myself. I already have a 68
If you have further questions you can either email me or contact me by phone at (707) 495-9768. If you are seriously interested in buying the car I would urge you to come look at it in person, but if that?s not possible bid with confidence becuasei have 100% positive rating and I have described the car as accurately as possible and have included lots of pictures.
Thanks For Bidding!!
