History of BOSS

 

I?m the 3^rd Owner of this beautiful BOSS. The 2^nd Owner bought the car in December of 1972 from Center Ford (now Empire Ford) in Spokane, Washington. It had approxmately 9,000 miles on it then. He owned it until the Fall of 2003, when I purchased it from him. It had approxmately 102,000 miles on it then (106,000 miles on it now). The 2^nd Owner had the car restored (1989 thru 1991). The restoration included the following:

 

Ø    NOS (New Old Stock) Ford rear quarter panel skins professionally installed.

Ø    NOS Ford rear tail panel.

Ø    Complete professional repaint (in original Grabber Yellow).

Ø    Complete professional engine rebuilt on 11-09-89 at 98,879 miles.

Ø    New Clutch and pressure plate installed.

Ø    Complete front end rebuilt (ball joints, tire rod ends, stabilizer link, etc..)

Ø    Holley carburetor installed.

Ø    New weather stripping.

Ø    Ram-Air flappers rebuilt.

Ø    New carpet, front seats vinyl (correct reproduction), and headliner.

Ø    New front spoiler.

Ø    15? Ford (correct for 71 Boss) magnum 500 wheels & center caps installed.

Ø    New shocks front and back.

Ø    Original radiator re-cored.

Ø    New Goodyear ST radial tires installed.

Ø    Glass.

 

 

Since I purchased the car, I have installed a new heater core, brakes, exhaust (Flowmaster series 40s), NOS 1972 HO Mustang dual point distributer (I have the original 71 BOSS one, but the breaker plates are wobbled out), turn signal harness, and new reproduction  dash pad. The Holley carburetor  was rebuilt.

 

Exterior:

 

Ø    Paint is in excellent condition, with a mirror gloss finish, (couple of small chips on Driver?s front fender, Driver?s door edge, and a few white paint flakes on flat black hood, 2^nd Owner was a house painter): see pictures.

Ø    Driver?s front fender inner lip has an inperfection (see pictures).

Ø    The body is nice and straight with no dents, dings, scrapes, or rust.

Ø    Alignment of all body panels are excellent.

Ø    Correct flat black paint on hood and back panel, however the sides and under front bumper, is painted glossy black.

Ø    Bumpers appear to be original, but still look great!

Ø    Glass is excellent all the way around.

Ø    All the exterior lights work good (stop, turn signal, running lights, etc..).

 

Tires and Wheels:

 

Ø    The tires are Goodyear ST radials and were installed in October of 1991.

Ø    The Magnum 500 are nice, but are a little dull and have slight pitting.

Ø    No jack, spare tire or rim in trunk.

 

Interior:

 

Ø    Interior is real nice. Has new front seat covers, carpet, and headliner. (The Driver?s back on the bottom has a small tear: see picture.)

Ø    The dash pad has been replaced with a correct reproduction.

Ø    Door panels and rear seat are original and in excellent shape.

Ø    Driver?s remote mirror handle is broken and loose from the door panel.

Ø    Steering wheel I cracked, but otherwise in great shape.

Ø    Original Philco AM is out of car (did not work), but comes with car.

Ø    Original seatbelts are in good condition.

Ø    All the gauges, wipers, turn signals, speedometer, tachometer, lights, etc..work good.

 

 

Engine and Drivetrain:

 

Ø    Engine runs strong (professionally rebuilt at 99,000 miles) and pulls hard on acceleration and idles perfect.

Ø    The original Hurst 4-speed and transmission shifts greats.

Ø    The rearend is the original Ford 9? Traction-Lok 3:91 (Posi) and works greats.

Ø    Shocks and brakes (including front calibers, hoses, pads, shoes, etc..) were replaced and work excellent.

Ø    Front end was completely rebuilt in early 90?s by second owner.

 

The Final Word

 

This is a really nice, honest, and unmolested 351 BOSS. It would not take to much time, effort, and money to make this BOSS a national show winner or you can enjoy it like it is. I?m a car collector in Spokane, Washington (I?m not a dealer), and the only reason I?m selling this is that I have bought a 2006 Z06 Yellow Corvette J and I?m out of garage space L.

 

 This Beautiful 351 BOSS can be driven and enjoyed, (That?s what they were built for), or taken to car shows and come away with the trophies. The choice is up to you. I?ve had many muscle cars over the years (I still have quite a stable of muscle cars), but the 1971 BOSS were always one of my favorite muscle cars.

 

If you are a serious muscle car enthusiast, like myself, you?ll be proud to be the new Owner of this unmolested/original low mileage 1971 351 BOSS Mustang !!

 

With the latest woes in the Stock Market and the rapidly depreciating Real Estate values across the country, this is one of your best investments going and you can enjoy it along the way.  The 302 & 351 Bosses are one of the fastest appreciating muscle cars on the market today and this 351 BOSS is surely going to escalate very rapidly in the near future (Like the Shelbys).
