1969 Boss 557 mustang project

If you were going to build a new Boss 429 type car what would you do?  That was the question three years ago when this project was started.  We did not want to build a clone.  We wanted to build a car that could stand on its own as a unique one of a kind project.  This is the result of three years of planning and hard work.  With Eleanor cars running well over 150,000 this is an opportunity to own what some have called Elvira.  Eleanor's meaner younger sister.  Guaranteed you will not be parked next to another one at your next show.  This car has attended only one show winning at the Good Guys Show in Bowling Green KY.

Body:  We started with a 1969 "S" code big block car from Las Vegas That was stored away for 25 years.  The rust free body was placed on a rotisserie where it was bead blasted and full frame installed.  A custom roll bar was installed extending to the front and rear of the car.  The car had meticulous work on the body paying extreme attention to gaps and lines.  The car was painted with PPG Black paint.  All chrome, weatherstripping, moldings etc are new.  The scoop is a Boss 429 style increased by one inch to allow for the Kaase intake height.  New painless wiring throughout with special under fender channels to hide the wires from the engine compartment.  The firewall was smoothed and new inner fenders were created to allow the installation of this massive engine.  The look going down the road is that of an original Boss with the major engineering changes under the hood and underneath.  The paint is miles deep and flawless, an unbelievable feat for black.

Suspension:  Heidts front suspension with power steering.  Heidts rear 4 link suspension.  Heidts stiffening bar with built in drive shaft loops

Engine:  BOSS 557 built by Bob Lathrop of Performance Unlimited.. Bob has been an engine masters runner up and put special attention into this build.  We started with a 460 block bored and stroked, forged crank, rods and pistons.  A comp cams solid roller was used with roller cam bearings.  On top is the first set of Jon Kaase Boss cylinder heads offered to the general public.  These were port matched by Bob with Kaase's new intake, valve covers and wires.  We used a Holley 4150 style carb 1050 cfm.  Custom made headers were fitted by Metalcrafters using 2 1/4" primaries into 3 1/2 " collectors.  The custom exhaust has been ceramic chromed front to back and includes sliding exhaust cut outs for the amount of sound you desire.  This combination produces over 800 hp yet idles smoothly and runs cool with the Be Cool 1000 HP radiator.  A custom "ram air" air cleaner that isolates carb from engine was created.

Drivetrain:  TKO 5 speed from the driven man with hydraulic clutch.  Chrome moly drive shaft into 35 spline detroit locker center section with 3.91 gearing.  2500 RPM gets you 70 mph on the road.  Brakes are electric boosted 4 wheel wilwood discs.

Interior:  New dash, year one insert with Auto Meter gauges, custom built console, New seat  foam and custom seat covers from TMI.  Fold down rear seat.  Power windows.

There is so much more to this build than I could put down in this space.  As you can probably tell no expense was spared in this build.  If you tried to duplicate this car with the attention to detail and workmanship it would be well over the buy it now price.
