ATTENTION CANADIAN BUYERS!
Below please find two web address that help to explain the process of importing a vehicle from the US to Canada.
The procedure is fairly straight forward and simple.
Shopping for a car in the US is similar to Canada, although there is far less negotiating as most US dealers advertise their very lowest prices. With most of us doing electronic advertising there's no point in having high prices on display using the Internet. I would like to also add that we treat our Canadian customers with the same pricing and professionalism as we show to our local customers.
Once you pick out the vehicle you intend to buy, and this can be done with a visit to the dealership or using the phone or Internet , we do the following.
1. We have to install day time running lamps, the cost is $200.00 in most cases.
2. Copies of your paperwork have to be sent to US customs at the Queenston bridge.
3. After the paperwork is received US customs approves the paperwork and forwards it to Canadian customs where the Canadian taxes are collected when you arrive at the border. If the serial number of the vehicle starts with a letter you will have to pay 6.1% import duty.
4. We need the name of your insurance company so that we can apply to our department of motor vehicles to obtain an in transit driving permit. NYS charges $15.00 for the permit.
5. We have to provide you with a letter stating there are no open recalls.
6. It generally takes Canadian Customs 72 hours before you are allowed to arrive at the border with your new or used car.
That's about it. You need to check pricing in Canada to make sure the savings make sense to you. From what we are seeing it's quite significant.
