Why a Bolt Locker Bolt Kit?

  • Our bolts are manufactured by International Standards Organization (ISO) 9000 or 9002 Certified Manufacturers This Organization certifies that the manufacturer follows the exact process and steel alloy for every item the Manufacturer Produces. These manufacturers must continuously send material samples  to keep their ISO Certification

  • 304 Alloy Stainless Steel Material with 6 Point Head

  • All Alloys of Stainless Steel used are Certified for alloy contents and Manufacturing Process

  • All Bolts and Washers are ASTM spec F593C Certification Stamped for Quality Assurance

  • American Society for Testing and Materials - ASTM specifies strict guidelines by which a bolt can be certified. 304 Alloy Stainless Steel can not be certified or represented as such without meeting the minimum standards for alloy and base materials content.

  • Custom Size Washers made in the USA

  • As Always if any bolt supplied by Bolt Locker does not fit your exact application, all you need to do is let us know, we will send replacement bolts for your combination of parts whether they are stock parts or aftermarket parts or fabricated race parts. This does include bolts for the installation of Some Aftermarket and Racing Designed parts subject to bolt availability. As I know you are aware, it is not possible to pack a bolt kit to fit every possible combination of parts. The only important thing to us at Bolt Locker is that every bolt fits YOUR application.

The following information has been compiled from Stainless Steel Manufacturers Websites

Stainless Steel Fastener FAQ

I ordered F 593C and got a bolt with 304SS on it. Did I get what I ordered?
No. ASTM F 593 clearly states the bolts must be marked F593C with the manufacturers head marking.

Is there a difference between the stainless steel I buy from the US compared to overseas quality?
Generally, no. In fact most of the fastener manufacturers that fabricate fasteners in the United States, use stainless steel wire and rod that is imported. The specifications are quite clear on what constitutes stainless steel no matter where it is made.

I have heard foreign stainless steel is recycled junk. Any truth to this?
Total hogwash. This myth has been perpetrated by some unscrupulous manufacturer attempting to protect their domestic market. Nearly all stainless steel, including that poured in the United States, uses recycled scrap. This is one of the selling points to stainless steel - it is 100% recyclable, therefore protecting the environment. According to the International Nickel Study Group website, it is estimated 1/4 of all nickel used in stainless steel is recycled nickel.

What is "18-8" stainless steel?
300 series stainless steel having approximately (not exactly) 18% chromium and 8% nickel. The term "18-8" is used interchangeably to characterize fasteners made of 302, 302HQ, 303, 304, 305, 384, XM7, and other variables of these grades with close chemical compositions. There is little overall difference in corrosion resistance among the "18-8" types, but slight differences in chemical composition do make certain grades more resistant than others against particular chemicals or atmospheres. "18-8" has superior corrosion resistance to 400 series stainless, is generally nonmagnetic, and is hardenable only by cold working.

Is a 304 bolt as strong as a Grade 5 bolt? No. While steel bolts are graded for strength, such as Grade 2, 5, and 8 - stainless steel bolts are not. There are places on the internet that sell 18-8 and 304 bolts as meeting steel Grade 5 specification's, but they do not and buyer should beware.

What about the threads, why do some bolts have threads with a rough look and some are very smooth and almost shiny by comparison?             Some bolts use a cut thread process to form the thread. A cut thread uses a series of sharp teath to cut the material out between the threads creating the valleys between the peaks of the thread. This leaves a jagged face on the thread and causes these threads to look rough. These threads are prone to gall and otherwise deform threads in softer metal parts such as aluminum, brass, and copper.  The threads that look smooth and shiny are actually pressed into the bolt shank. The area to be threaded on these bolts are forged to a smaller diameter before threading. The tool that creates the thread, forces the metal to flow up and into the cavities between the valleys creating a harder stronger and more uniformly shaped thread. These threads have a much lower tendency to gall soft metals such as aluminum, brass, and copper. All bolts are not created equally, and buyer should beware. Cheap products cost far more than quality parts when the cheap parts do not fit, when they have to be replaced, and when they damage your Expensive Parts
