1967 Honda CL77
Anyone that grew up in the '60s remembers the impact that Honda's scramblers had on the American public and the motorcycle industry as a whole. Probably no other "scrambler" had a bigger impact than the Honda 305. As I rode my Honda Cub 50, it certainly impressed me. Now, I have too many projects and have decided to sell a few.
I purchased this CL77 on ebay a few years ago. It was in desperate need of restoration with the motor not running. I disassembled the bike, sand blasted the frame and had all of the black parts powder coated. Slowly, I began collecting the NOS parts and reassembly. The following list is a partial listing of the major items during the restoration:
- The engine was overhauled by a VJMC field rep and 30 years Honda/Yamaha dealer.
- The black components were powder coated.
- NOS rear rim. I was having difficulty locating a NOS front rim.
- NOS rear and front spokes.
- New chain and both sprockets.
- Period correct tires.
- NOS mirrors, head light rim, head light switch lever, entire tail light assembly, cultch/brake levers, gas cap,
- Re-chromed handlebars, front fender, rear grab bar, rear brake pedal, exhaust collars, exhaust shields
- Rear shocks disassembled and re-chromed
- Repainted correct Honda silver
- Gas tank lined
- Carbs rebuilt
- Almost every bolt in NOS or replated
- Everything works - horn, lights
As you can see, most of the bike has been touched during this process. I have shown the bike at local shows and ridden it about 200 miles during the past couple of years.
Now, a few things to note:
- I elected to NOT recover the seat. It is not perfect with a couple of small spots, but I liked it as is. And, it can only be "original" once.
- The front fender brace was not rechromed and has a few scratches.
- The exhaust pipes were not rechromed. As you know, chrome is very expensive and oily exhaust pipes can damage the chroming tanks.
- I have both tank emblems, but one is warped. I also purchased two newer Honda emblems. All go with the sell.
- I have the muffler, but it is scratched. Since no one left theirs on in the '60s, I never installed it. It goes with the sell.
- The auction is for the bike "as is", "where is". No warranty is on implied or given.
- Vehicles this old in Alabama do not have a title. The bike will come with a Bill of Sell only.
I do not have a way to create the bike, but will deliver it for free to the Birmingham, Alabama Forward Air Freight at the airport if that will help. Also, I will be happy to e-mail any photo you request; please contact me through ebay. Please check my other listings on ebay as I will be seeling some more of my collection in the next few days.
