If you follow my auctions you know I have been selling used ATV's on eBay for over 9 years and try to find machines in each price category, weekly. The hardest machines to find are the sun $3000 4x4's. (and I am told with the huge price increases for the new machines the days of the cheap ones are about over) This week I found one of the most durable utility machines built-the legendary Yamaha 350 4x4. These are extremely tough and have a loyal following. They have a 350cc four stroke engine that has been around forever with an automatic clutch and a 5 speed transmission with reverse. It has the ability to stop in any forward gear (no clutch) and if you are teaching someone to be able to ride a motorcycle, this is the best option. You have to manually pick the gears that you want to ride in, but there is no clutch so you can easily ride over rock fields, through trees, back trailers around, etc. without killing the motor. It gives newbies the confidence to hop on a machine with a clutch and have about 90% of the process figured out. Plus they just work so well. A centrifugal clutch, bathed in oil for almost no maintenance and when it "hooks up" it is a solid feel that has great downhill braking, allows you to short shift through the woods so you don't scare game and will allow an engine to produce considerably more power per cc than a fully automatic machine. (this runs like a 450-500 auto)This is one of the best years of this design since it has the ultra long travel suspension and the modern plastic-in Yamaha Racing blue no less! This is one sharp machine that has at least 60% left on the tires and starts, runs, and rides great. They are the type of machine that you can ride forever with minimal maintenance.
