Vehicle Description

Up for your consideration is a 1986 Mercury Capri ASC McLaren convertible. Only 69,502 original miles. I recently obtained this car from the original owner with the hopes of using it as a fun summer car. After driving it for a week or so, I have decided that I am way too big to be driving this car around, and will stick with the Jeep instead. WHICH, BY THE WAY, IF YOU HAVE A JEEP YOU WANT TO TRADE, LET ME KNOW. I AM ALWAYS INTERESTED IN ANOTHER WRANGLER.

I don't know a whole lot about McLarens, but know this is a fun little car. It is pretty quick with a 5.0 HO ford motor, and as you can see in the pictures, it is fuel injected. I have also taken a picture of the badge on the side, which identifies this car as #66 made in 1986. Obviously, it is red with a tan top and interior, and to my knowledge, is completely original. I have done my best to take photos of the spots I know are commonly bad on fox body Mustangs, and this car is RUST FREE. It has been garage kept all of it's life.

The paint is old, and thin. It is worst on the trunklid and metal boot on the rear of the car. There are some scrapes and oxidized spots where the rain dried on it a few times when it was outside. Also, the hood is not the greatest, with the same oxidation spots from the rain drying on it. I think these can be taken out if you cut an polish it, but I can't be certain. The best bet would be to just repaint the hood and trunk/decklid. It still looks okay in the sun, but you can tell it needs a new paint job. Don't get me wrong, this car can be driven the way it is without embarrassment, but, for a truly nice car, I would paint it because of the thin spots/oxidation. At least a paint job on the hood and deck/trunk lid would be advisable. JUST TO BE CLEAR, I HAVE INFORMED ALL OF YOU THAT THE PAINT IS NOT PERFECT, AND SHOULD BE REDONE SHORTLY. At the very least, it should be cut and polished, as there is oxidation spots on the hood and trunk lid.

The interior was recently professionally detailed. It looks great. As you can see, it is ALL ORIGINAL. Even the Kenwood tape player. This car has all of the original real wood trim also.

There is a button inside the drivers door as pictured that has up and down arrows on it. I don't know what it is for, but, it doesn't do anything when it is depressed.

The tires and brakes seem good. The tires are made by Kelly, and have good life left in them, although I would advise a balance be done soon. These were used tires from another car, as the tires I got it with were flat spotted because it sat for so long in a garage.

The convertible top is brand new. I see no problems with it other than the latch that the back of the top slides into the boot will not grab onto the post that extends down from the top, thus leaving the back slightly open when the top is up. I know there is a spring that fell out of it, which I have, but have not to fix it since I am not much of a mechanic. The trunk and gas door buttons also don't work, but, they can be opened manually with the cables located in the storage bins and trunk.

I just had a tune up done to replace all of the plugs, wires, rotor, and distributor cap. Also, we just dropped the gas tank and put in a new fuel pump, pickup, and replaced the fuel filter.

Also, I just put a new exhaust on it from the catalytic convertor back. I went with a more mild exhaust as this is more of a cruiser in my opinion. When it idles, it has a nice subtle, low rumble, but still growls when the pedal is pressed hard...just not obnoxiously.

Of course, this car is "as-is" and "where-is". I cannot give a warranty with it. I strongly encourage anyone who has the opportunity to check this car out in person. I will allow test drives as well...although I will ride along.

Please only offer if you are serious. I will consider only reasonable offers.

I have posted multiple photos. If you want a specific picture, please let me know, and I will do my best to accomodate you. Remember, this is your opportunity to ask all the right questions, and request all the right information. I am trying to be very fair in my description. I bought this car right, and simply want to get my money back out of it because this BIG BOY doesn't fit in the car too well.

I have also included a screenshot of the carfax report I got, showing this car qualifies for the buyback guarantee they offer if you buy the report, and register. Also, the report shows no accidents.

Please ask questions before you offer. If I accept your offer, you have entered into a binding contract.

One last thing...IF YOU HAVE LITTLE OR NO EBAY FEEDBACK, YOU NEED TO EMAIL ME BEFORE YOU OFFER OR BUY IT NOW. I WILL CANCEL YOUR BID IF YOU FAIL TO CONTACT ME AND HAVE LOW OR NO FEEDBACK.
